A Tenerife tourist recently headed off on holiday hoping to soak up the sun, but an unexpected setback ended up scuppering her plans. Vicky Walton recently paid a visit to the beloved holiday destination in the Canary Islands, only to be left floored upon her arrival.
With the travel season now in full swing and scores of people jetting off abroad, Vicky’s trip unfortunately didn’t pan out as she had hoped. She flew to Tenerife seeking some sunshine and a golden tan, but ended up returning home with something quite different to what she’d bargained for.
It’s not the first time such an issue has been raised recently either. Just weeks ago, a number of holidaymakers confessed they’d booked early flights home owing to an unforeseen problem.
Posting footage of her trip on TikTok, she said: “Tenerife. Came for the sun. Leaving with the clouds.” In the caption, Vicky added: “Won’t be bringing the sun back home with me!”
The footage clearly depicts just how overcast it was across the island, and she suggested it was rather chilly too. Other visitors acknowledged they’d encountered similar problems.

One remarked: “I was there yesterday. I’m sick of Tenerife and the weather. Five times I’ve been here – never had a full week of nice weather. Never coming back!”
Another chimed in: “Right now the whole island is like this, with a storm alert. We have spent the coldest winter of our lives. We have had intermittent storms for two months.”
A third replied: “Me too. Really cold and cloudy yesterday.” Meanwhile, a fourth commented: “I had to go back to my room and get my hot water bottle out.”
Someone else noted: “Weather’s s***. Been here twice in two months and it’s been the worst. Won’t be back for a long time.”
Not everyone had a miserable time, however. Other visitors reported enjoying far better conditions during their stays.
One said: “Very warm here today.” Another replied: “Thermometer said 32° at 2pm. It’s been beautiful today.”
A further visitor added: “Came home on Thursday after a full week of sun.” It appears holidaymakers have had vastly contrasting experiences.
What’s been happening?
Tenerife is renowned for its year-round warm climate, which is perhaps why tourists have been caught off guard of late. The destination is frequently dubbed the “island of eternal spring.”
Temperatures typically range from 18°C to 21°C in winter and 24°C to 28°C in summer, with the south coast being considerably warmer and drier than the north. August is traditionally the hottest month, with temperatures commonly climbing to around 29°C.
More recently, however, the island has been battered by storms, strong winds and heavy rainfall. Back in March, the island was struck by Storm Therese, which brought unusually low temperatures, bleak conditions, cancelled flights and even snow warnings in certain areas.
Numerous tourists have reported more unsettled weather than usual this year, though some parts of the island have been harder hit than others.
