Lorcan O’Toole remembers a particular game during Dannah O’Brien’s ladies football career for St Anne’s in Carlow where he and his selectors “were looking at each other on the sideline saying, how did she even come up with that?”
St Anne’s were bidding to win their first minor championship final but faced a gale-force wind in the second half of a game that was played in the depths of winter. It was one of those days when kicking points against the elements was close to impossible with some of their earlier efforts “being blown to the corner flag”.
