Tributes have poured in from across the county following the death of a Cork teenager who was struck by a vehicle in Little Island late last week.

Conor Coleman was rushed to Cork University Hospital following the incident on Friday and was placed in intensive care. Sadly, despite the best efforts of doctors at the CUH, he succumbed to his injuries the following day.

In a notice posted to RIP.ie, the Coleman family thanked the medical staff who worked to save their son’s life and commended the organ transplant team for their compassion during such a difficult time.

They said: “The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the wonderful staff in the Intensive Care Unit at the Cork University Hospital and the compassionate and respectful Organ Transplant team.”

Conor is survived by his brother John, his parents, Barry and Trish, his grandparents and a wide circle of family and friends. The 19-year-old passed away surrounded by members of his loving family on Saturday.

Many have come forward to express their condolences to the family and pay tribute to Conor, describing him as ‘a fine young man.’

One person said: “Sincere and heartfelt sympathy to you all. His gift of life-saving organs will stay with you. A fine young man gone but never forgotten”

Another added: “Such a lovely young man taken so suddenly and way too young. You must be commended for your bravery with organ donation at such a tragic time. May you be rewarded with the love, compassion, and kindness you deserve from family, friends, and work colleagues.”

A third said: “Trish, Barry & John, please accept our deepest condolences on the tragic loss of your precious son Conor.

“An unimaginable void in your family at his passing, but Conor’s wonderful legacy will live on with his wonderful gift of organ donation. You are all in our thoughts & prayers at this sad time.”

The reposing will take place at the Temple Hill Funeral Home at 6 pm on Tuesday, followed by a requiem mass at the Church of Our Lady and St. John, Carrigaline the following day. The family has requested donations in lieu of flowers to Cork University Hospital.

Rest in Peace.
