Danielle Fishel and her high school ex-boyfriend, *NSYNC’s Lance Bass, just reunited in the best possible way—by recreating their iconically awkward prom photo.
The Boy Meets World actress, 44, shared the hilarious moment in an Instagram video, which saw her wearing the very same white backless dress from 1999 as Bass wrapped an arm around her waist. The pair left a little gap between themselves, just like the original photo.

“We recreated our 1999 Prom pic, hoverhand and all (and yes, that’s the ACTUAL dress!) I still don’t know why we didn’t work out!!” Fishel joked in the caption.

Fishel and Bass dated briefly in the ’90s. In 2022, Fishel recalled the relationship lasted “about a year” during an appearance on the “Pod Meets World” podcast.
“Lance and I had a very wonderful, very warm, loving relationship but it was completely lacking of intimacy — intimacy in the romantic sense,” Fishel said. “I held on for hope for way too long that we were going to get back together and get married and have a family…It turns out I’m not Lance’s type.”
They broke up shortly after their prom date.
“That is the night Lance talks about…where he felt like he was hurting me by not being honest with himself or anyone else about what was going on in his life. And so it was kind of the impetus for him to say, ‘I’m going to end our relationship,’” Fishel explained.

Bass came out as gay with a People cover story in 2006. “I’m not ashamed—that’s the one thing I want to say,” he said. “I don’t think it’s wrong, I’m not devastated going through this. I’m more liberated and happy than I’ve been my whole life. I’m just happy.”
Despite breaking up, the exes have remained in touch over the years and even announced plans to work on a movie that used their prom story as inspiration.
“The reason we wanted to make this prom story into a film, I think so many people can relate to that story; so many people in the LGBT community, their prom night was the night they were like, ‘Oh, wait a minute. This can’t happen anymore,’” Bass told Variety in 2022. “This was the catalyst for me that made me start to accept myself, which took a long time after that, but that was definitely the first little straw that broke.”
Bass is now married to painter and actor Michael Turchin, and the pair are parents to twins, Violet and Alexander, born via surrogate in 2021.
Fishel is also married to writer, producer, and podcaster Jensen Karp, and they share sons Keaton and Adler, born in 2021 and 2019.
