Private and direct messages, including old ones can be monitored…
Instagram messages will no longer be fully private from next month.
Meta has announced it is turning off encryption on messages on the app on May 8th.
It means the social media platform will now be able to access or monitor content in users’ private, direct messages, including old ones.
Adrian Weckler, Technology Editor of the Irish Independent, explains what encryption does:”It’s common on services like Whatsapp and Signal – and it’s the ulitimate in priacy. Services promote as a way to guarantee that nobody else – not even the services themselves can see what you’re sending and Instagram is turning it off on May 8th”.
