Weights sold at Walmart are being recalled due to risk of injury.
The U.S. Consumer and Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced on Thursday, April 23 that it has recalled the FitRx SmartBell Quick-Select 5-52.5lbs Adjustable Dumbbells, explaining the exercise equipment may pose “serious injury” due to being an “impact hazard.”
The dumbbells are adjustable from 5 to 52.5 lbs. and can be adjusted in 2.5 or 5-lb. increments by turning the handle to the desired weight, while the dumbbell is nested in the storage tray, per the CPSC. However, sometimes an issue arises after a person picks up the weights.
The CPSC said that it initiated the recall after receiving 115 reports of weight plates dislodging during use. At least six people reported injuries including “broken toes, bruises, contusions and lacerations” as a result.

The recall includes 50,000 units of the dumbbells, which were sold in black with red accents and include handles, weight plates and a molded plastic storage tray.
The recalled units have the serial numbers KK23288361 through KK23388361 and KK207608361 through KK21347836 only, per the CPSC.
The products were imported by Tzumi Electronics Inc. of New York and sold in Walmart stores nationwide from January 2024 through November 2024 for about $100.
The CPSC said that anyone who purchased the item should “immediately stop using the adjustable dumbbell” and contact Tzumi Electronics Inc. “for a free replacement of the dumbbell and tray.”
Customers should also write the word “recalled” across the dumbbell tray using permanent spray paint or marker. Once the item has been registered, they can dispose of the product.

This wasn’t the only recall made this past week. On the same day, the CPSC also announced a recall of nearly 5,000 youth all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) after a 6-year-old was killed in a crash involving one.
That recall involved the Rex110 and Sierra110 Youth All-Terrain Vehicles and was made because the CPSC said that the made-for-children products failed to adhere to mandatory safety standards, including the “maximum speed limitations” for four-wheelers intended for children ages 6 and older.
The CPSC said that any consumer who purchased a Rex110 or Sierra110 Youth ATV should stop using them immediately and contact the distributing company for a full refund.
