Kildare’s minor footballers gained a modicum of revenge for their seniors’ loss to Westmeath two days earlier when they eased past a feeble home challenge in the Leinster quarter-final in ideal conditions in Mullingar.

The Lilywhites scored a remarkable five goals in a totally one-sided first half. They came via Cian Kehoe (second minute), Aidan Tobin (fifth), Liam Mescal (17th), Jack Doran (20th) and Jamie Flood (26th) as the visitors were given inordinate time and space to find the net. Tobin was particularly effective at centre half forward and he also kicked two fine points from play.
