Exports continue downward course

Greek exports recorded a decline for the second consecutive month, falling in January and February both in value and volume. Imports, which were already higher, also dropped, but at a slower rate, resulting in a significant widening of the trade deficit – both including and excluding oil products.

What is more worrying is that the data does not reflect the impact of the war in the Middle East, which broke out at the end of February, and is exerting significant pressure on Greek export businesses.

According to the data that the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT) released on Wednesday, the total value of exports fell in February to €3.91 billion compared to €4.06 billion in February 2025, registering a decrease of 3.6%. Excluding petroleum products and ships, Greek exports recorded a decline by 1.1%.

In the two months of January-February 2026, the total value of exports amounted to €7.58 billion compared to €8.18 billion in the corresponding period of 2025, recording a decrease of 7.5%.

Excluding petroleum products and ships, the value of exports fell by 2.2% in the two months under review.
