THERE is plenty of life left in Leyland tractors as local charities have benefitted from the vintage machines being driven far away from their farm yards and sheds.
This year’s Leyland Munster Tractor Run, which was on February 28 and March 1, raised an amazing €38,480 for good causes.
One of the organisers, Colette Acheson, Ballyneety, said 40 vintage tractors took off from Ahern’s bar in Newport on a 350km route over two days taking in all six counties of Munster. It is a far cry from their first run in 2022 when just eight tractors and their drivers took part,
Colette says this year’s chosen charities are Cliona’s Foundation and the Limerick, Clare and Tipperary branches of Down Syndrome Ireland.
Colette said, on behalf of all involved in the Leyland Munster Tractor Run, that they were very proud to present cheques of €14,480 to Cliona’s Foundation and €8,000 each to Down Syndrome Limerick, Down Syndrome Clare and Down Syndrome Tipperary, at a special presentation night.
“We are truly delighted to support such incredible charities. A massive thank you to everyone who supported and sponsored us – this simply wouldn’t be possible without their generosity,” said Colette.
Over the past five years, they have raised an incredible €134,500 for charities.
“We started with eight tractors in 2022 and now it’s 40 tractors in 2026. We couldn’t be more grateful,” concluded Colette.
