Last week, the It Ends With Us legal drama came to a close after Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni agreed to a settlement just two weeks before the case was scheduled to go to trial. Lively celebrated the news as a “resounding victory” and made a surprise appearance at the Met Gala just hours after the settlement was announced.
After all that, a very celebratory Mother’s Day was in order. Her husband, Ryan Reynolds, posted a tribute to Lively on his Instagram Story on Sunday, sharing photos of them hugging in ponchos by a waterfall and lounging side by side in Adirondack chairs. “I appreciate this mother beyond measure,” Reynolds wrote. “She is kind. She is fearless. She’s the absolute love of my life — and to our four little kids, she’s the life of their love.”
Reynolds has stood ten toes down for Lively throughout her legal battle against Baldoni, demonstrating support both on social media and in text messages unsealed as part of a court order. In an August 2024 text, Reynolds praised his wife for her work on It Ends With Us, saying she “went so far above and beyond what should be asked of anyone, in order to land a jumbo jet on a fucking dime.” He also had some pretty choice words for Baldoni, whom he called “an inexplicably toxic mess — to say nothing of the fact he ‘presents’ as a feminist ally/warrior when he’s actually a thoroughbred, predatory fraudster.” (Baldoni flatly denied all of Lively’s allegations, and his lawyer said he is “ecstatic” about the settlement.)
Reynolds had no regrets about what he said after those texts were made public, and his rep told Puck he wishes he’d gone even harder. “Yes, Ryan got involved — what husband wouldn’t support his wife and the mother of his children?” the rep said. “He saw his wife fighting daily to stand up against sexual harassment in a private and respectful way only to face retaliation for doing so. If anything, Ryan feels like he wasn’t angry enough. He passionately believes in and will stand up for the basic right to a safe workplace free of harassment and retaliation for his wife and others. Then, now, and always.”
Sounds like a man who does not mess around when it comes to sticking up for his wife. What more could you ask for on Mother’s Day?
