A woman in her 20s has died following a road crash in Co Tipperary on Tuesday.

The woman, named locally as Laura Kennedy from Burgess died in the two-car collision on the Nenagh to Dromineer Road R495 at about 9.00pm.

She was the driver of one of the cars and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Her body was later taken to University Hospital Limerick where a postmortem examination will be carried out in due course.

The coroner has been notified.

The road is currently closed to allow for a technical examination to take place.

Kennedy was well known in GAA circles in the area and was due to celebrate her 21st birthday in a couple of weeks.

Locals said Kennedy and her twin sister Aishling were very accomplished at sport, particularly cross country running and camogie, which she played with her club Burgess Duharra Camogie Club along with Tipperary development camogie squads.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses. Any road users who may have camera footage, including dashcam, and were travelling on the Nenagh to Dromineer Road between 8.15pm and 9.15pm on Tuesday, are asked to make it available to investigating gardaí.
