Brian Dowling never envisaged wearing anything other than black and amber to a county match in Nowlan Park, but his journey as Kildare hurling manager has already thrown up all kinds of unlikely eventualities.
The former Kilkenny forward, a two-time All-Ireland SHC winner (2002-’03), honed his hurling craft just a stone’s throw across the road in O’Loughlin Gaels and he is a Cat to his core.
