Emmerdale spoilers follow.
Emmerdale launched a shocking new whodunnit tonight, as a mystery figure started a dangerous fire. The cliffhanger followed an episode full of tension between Cain and Robert – but who was actually responsible?
The instalment opened with Robert working on the farm, only to be attacked and knocked unconscious by Sam. When Robert woke up, he was tied to a chair in the barn – faced with a hammer-wielding Cain.

Yesterday, viewers saw Cain find out that Robert was the one who planted incriminating identity documents at Butlers, leading to Moira’s wrongful arrest – and tonight, he was out for payback.
Sam fled the barn after fearing that Cain was “taking it a bit too far”, but Cain continued to threaten Robert, leading the latter to explain how he was only protecting Victoria for killing John.
Later, as Moira and Aaron worried about where the two men were, Cain went to strike Robert but then collapsed in pain himself, leaving Robert torn on whether to escape or help him.
He ultimately chose to take him to hospital, where Cain warned him not to “think this is over”. With Cain taken in for treatment, Moira and Aaron arrived and found out what had happened.

After Aaron spoke to Cain and stuck up for Robert, Robert apologised for his actions once again and Cain finally agreed to make peace.
Robert and Aaron walked out of the hospital relieved to have put this ugly chapter behind them, but their troubles were far from over – as viewers then saw a mysterious figure starting a blaze at Emmerdale Farm. Who was behind the shocking act?
In other Emmerdale news, it’s been confirmed that Patsy Kensit is reprising her iconic role of Sadie King after 20 years. Sure enough, the character had affairs with both Robert and Cain during her original stint.
“I am really excited to return to Emmerdale,” Kensit said. “I treasure the years I was here before. Sadie King is a character that I really loved playing. The cast and crew are absolutely brilliant and I am so grateful for the chance to return to the show – it’s absolutely amazing.”
Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 8pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
