Chip Zdarsky is on a quest to make the Marvel Universe feel more epic. The Eisner Award-winning writer’s next project is Avengers: Armageddon, a limited series that pits the heroes of the Marvel Universe against Red Hulk. The limited series will build on the events of Zdarsky’s Captain America run and set the stage for the next year of Marvel stories.
According to Zdarsky, the goal was to make an event that felt similar to the stories Marvel used to tell like Civil War or House of M, when crossovers had human stakes and long term consequences across the publishing line. “I’m trying to bring that kind of feeling back to Marvel,” Chip Zdarsky says during an appearance on Direct Edition.
“I’ve got plans that extend well into 2028, provided it clears a bunch of hurdles. And the Captain America series is kind of the beginning of that, and it kind of builds up through that Wolverine miniseries and this Avengers: Armageddon, and the thing that follows that, and the thing that follows that. There’s definitely a plan. And it’s cool to be in that position, to runway, and plan a big story with all these characters.”
Avengers: Armageddon #1 is on sale June 10.
