Stargazers were treated to a striking celestial pairing on Monday evening as the Moon and Venus appeared close together in the sky.

The conjunction was visible shortly after sunset, with the two objects shining low in the western sky.

One apt view of the spectacle was from the Mary W. Jackson NASA Headquarters Building in Washington.

The display was visible across parts of the UK and other regions where the sky was clear and the western horizon remained unobstructed.
