Thypoch has expanded its Simera-C compact cinema prime lineup with a new ultra-wide 16mm T1.9, available in Sony E-mount and Leica M-mount. The lens introduces a 106° diagonal field of view, near-zero distortion, and a sub-500g build, and arrives alongside a new six-lens kit pairing it with the existing 21mm, 28mm, 35mm, 50mm, and 75mm primes for a complete focal range from ultra-wide to medium telephoto.
The Simera-C series, developed by Thypoch alongside sister brand DZOFILM, has steadily grown since its initial release. We have previously covered the original four-lens Simera-C launch with the 28mm, 35mm, 50mm, and 75mm focal lengths, followed by the addition of the 21mm and later the Leica M-mount versions of the set. The 16mm now occupies the widest end of the line and shifts slightly from the family’s signature T1.5 aperture, opening to T1.9 in exchange for the optical complexity required by such a wide angle of view on full-frame.

The 16mm is designed around the same target use cases as the rest of the series: compact cinema cameras, mirrorless bodies, and gimbal-driven workflows. With a maximum image circle of 43.2mm, it covers full-frame sensors and remains compatible with Super 35 and APS-C formats. Thypoch quotes a 96° horizontal, 73° vertical, and 106° diagonal field of view, making it one of the wider primes available in this form factor.
Optically, the lens uses 15 elements arranged in 11 groups, combining aspherical, low-dispersion, and high-refractive-index elements. Thypoch reports a peak center resolution of 85 lp/mm, with near-zero distortion and zero focus breathing, claims it positions as part of the lineup’s 8K-capable performance brief. The 16-blade iris is consistent across the entire series and is intended to produce rounded out-of-focus highlights and clean specular rendering at every aperture setting.

At 79.3mm / 3.12in in length in E-mount and 69.6mm / 2.74in in Leica M-mount, the 16mm slots neatly into the established Simera-C profile. The E-mount version weighs 490g / 1.08lb and the M-mount 467g / 1.03lb, putting it within roughly of the 21mm prime. Front diameter is 67mm with M62*0.75 filter threads, matching the 21mm, 28mm, 35mm, and 50mm primes in the kit; only the 75mm uses a 72mm front diameter with M67 filter threads.
Like the rest of the series, the 16mm uses a 0.8 MOD gear pitch on both the focus and aperture rings, with a 210° focus throw that should give first ACs and solo operators usable manual control. The minimum focus distance is 0.16m / 6.3in from the sensor plane, the closest in the lineup. A floating element group enables that close-focus performance, which Thypoch positions as a clear advantage over rehoused or modified rangefinder optics with fixed element groups.
Workflow compatibility across mounts and rigs
Both Sony E-mount and Leica M-mount versions ship at launch. The M-mount option is the more flexible of the two in mixed-system productions: with standard adapters, the lens can move to L-mount, Canon RF, Nikon Z, Fujifilm X, and other mirrorless mounts. With third-party locking adapters such as the XPIMAGE M-to-ARRI mount, the Simera-C set is usable on ARRI Alexa Mini LF, Alexa Mini, and Amira bodies, as well as Sony VENICE. The compact dimensions also make the series one of the few cinema lens lines that fit cleanly on the DJI Ronin 4D’s Zenmuse X9 simply by swapping the mount, with no counterweighting required.
For operators working with electronic focus accessories, Thypoch notes compatibility with DJI Focus Pro and similar autofocus motor systems, which allow the manual M-mount glass to be driven by external motors on lightweight gimbal builds.

Alongside the 16mm, Thypoch is releasing a six-lens kit bundling the new ultra-wide with the existing 21mm, 28mm, 35mm, 50mm, and 75mm primes, available in either Sony E-mount or Leica M-mount. This becomes the most complete Simera-C package the brand has offered, replacing the previous five-lens set as the flagship configuration. Across the kit, individual lens weights range from 353g / 0.78lb (75mm M-mount) up to 491g / 1.08lb (21mm E-mount), keeping the full set well under 3kg with consistent handling between focal lengths.
Thypoch is also introducing dedicated metal hard cases and custom foam inserts sized for the six-lens kit. The foam inserts are offered in a Pelican-compatible cut for filmmakers who already rely on standard hard cases.

The Thypoch Simera-C 16mm T1.9 is priced at 879 USD for the Sony E-mount version and 959 USD for the Leica M-mount. The Simera-C six-lens kit is listed at 4,369 USD in E-mount and 4,849 USD in M-mount. The dedicated metal hard case is priced at 199 USD, with custom foam inserts at 50 USD and 80 USD, depending on configuration.
