Three people have escaped injury after they were inside a house in a Co Antrim village when a bomb exploded.
Police received a report of a pipe bomb being placed on the living room window ledge of the property in the Rectory Gardens area of Broughshane, by two men in dark clothing at around 11pm on Wednesday.
The device exploded, causing extensive damage to the windows of the property and the living room. Three residents were inside at the time but were uninjured.
Two men left the scene and headed in the direction of Ballymena.
PSNI officers and Ammunition Technical Officers (ATO) attended, and cordons remain in place at the scene on Thursday morning.
Ulster Unionist Party Leader Jon Burrows MLA and Ulster Unionist Braid Councillor Alan Barr issued a joint statement on the attack saying:
“Last night’s pipe bomb attack in Broughshane was a reprehensible act. Broughshane is a quiet, welcoming village, and its people want nothing to do with such criminality.
“The device, placed beneath a living room window, endangered not only those inside the property but also any members of the public who may have been passing by.
“We condemn this attack in the strongest possible terms, and we urge anyone with information to come forward to the PSNI.”
