A woman was driving across a bridge in Kentucky when she spotted a ball of black fluff on the road and immediately pulled over. She ran back across the bridge and found a tiny kitten huddled up on the road.
“Look at this baby,” the woman said in a video on TikTok.
The kitten, later named Kirby, started hissing as soon as she saw her rescuer, understandably scared and confused. The woman wasn’t fazed, however, and scooped Kirby up and carried her to safety.
Since she had a dog, several cats and other pets at home, the woman already had a pet carrier in her car and popped the kitten inside. The pair drove home and the woman gave Kirby a thorough once-over. She was surprisingly clean, with no visible signs of mites or fleas, which led the woman to believe Kirby had been dumped there recently.
The woman already had six cats and had rescued another kitten the month before, and ultimately decided, “What’s one more?” and adopted Kirby.
It took Kirby a little while to warm up after her ordeal, but eventually she calmed down and began to fall in love with her new mom. The woman introduced Kirby to the other kitten she’d recently rescued, and the pair became fast friends.
If the woman hadn’t pulled over, there’s no telling what might have happened to Kirby. Instead, she’s safe and loved with her new family.
