An urgent recall has been issued for specific Lidl and SuperValu meat products sold across Ireland because Salmonella has been detected.

Shoppers across Ireland are being urged to check their fridges and freezers after an urgent food safety alert was issued for meat sold in Lidl and SuperValu stores.
Specific batches of Irish pork mince have been recalled because Salmonella was detected in them.
Customers have been warned not to eat the affected products, while all batches should now be removed from sale with recall notices displayed in stores.
The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) said: “Kepak is recalling the below batches of pork mince products due to the presence of Salmonella. Recall notices will be displayed at point of sale.
“Retailers are requested to remove the implicated batches from sale. Consumers are advised not to eat the implicated batches.”
The recall affects the following batches:
- Lidl Family Pack 100% Irish Pork Mince 800g with use by date 16/06/26, batch number L5159 and approval number IE 329 EC
- SuperValu Fresh Irish Pork Mince 400g with use by date 16/06/26, batch number L5159 and approval number IE 329 EC
- SuperValu Fresh Irish Pork Mince 800g with use by date 16/06/26, batch number L6159 and approval number IE 329 EC
The FSAI added that Salmonella, a bacteria that can cause food poisoning, can lead to severe illness. It explained: “People infected with Salmonella typically develop symptoms between 12 and 36 hours after infection, but this can range between six and 72 hours.
“The most common symptom is diarrhoea, which can sometimes be bloody. Other symptoms may include fever, headache, and abdominal cramps. The illness usually lasts four to seven days. Diarrhoea can occasionally be severe enough to require hospital admission. The elderly, infants, and those with impaired immune systems are more likely to have a severe illness.”
A recall is being carried out
A spokesperson for Lidl said: “Lidl Ireland is recalling the above Family Pack Pork Mince 800g due to the detection of Salmonella. If you have purchased the above product, do not consume it. Instead, please return the product to a Lidl store for a full refund, with or without a receipt.
“Lidl wishes to apologise for any inconvenience caused. Any customers with queries or concerns can contact our Customer Services Team on 01 920 3010.”
A spokesperson for SuperValu said: “SuperValu are recalling the following Pork Mince Lines due to the presence of Salmonella. If you have purchased this product do not eat. Please return it to your nearest store, where you will be issued with a refund.
“Consumers are advised to check their freezers for the implicated batch. We apologise for any inconvenience and thank you for your co-operation. For our help line, contact 021 4217619.”
