What had been at half-time a well-balanced contest petered out into a routine win for Dublin. The visitors were by no means dazzling in the second half but Cavan ran out of steam and were beaten by 11 points, 1-24 to 0-13.
The winners will be happy to have negotiated their way into Monday’s draw and that the defence, which had a disastrous outing in the defeat by Louth, were less permeable but the attack was wasteful and burned numerous goal chances before Con O’Callaghan netted a late penalty.
Colm Basquel was a lively presence after coming in on 20 minutes for the injured Cormac Costello. In Ger Brennan’s first match back on the sideline, Dublin are comfortably into the next round.

Three other provincial winners have lost at least one game – Armagh, Kerry and Roscommon. Westmeath will give it a good go though as O’Sullivan scores and then Galway are punished for a breach, which Heslin scores. They win the kickout and McCartan scores well. Surely not another crazy comeback?

Dublin just in front in Cavan at half-time. A fisted point by Lee Gannon in the 35th minute gave the visitors a one-point lead in this last-chance saloon contest. Cavan will be regretting seven wides in the opening half whereas their opponents had only one, which wasn’t even an attempt at a score but a deflection over the end line by Cormac Costello, who had to be replaced in the 20th minute by Colm Basquel after an early knock failed to resolve itself. Two two-pointers by Conor Brady and Paddy had Cavan surging but Dublin hit back with a two-pointer by Con O’Callaghan, who had a goal chance but opted to pass inside and Brian O’Connell intercepted. All to play for. Dublin 0-13 to 0-12 ahead.

He makes two changes to the announced team: Cuala centrefielder Peadar Ó Cofaigh Byrne is back after suspension and Lee Gannon comes in for Eoin Kennedy. Cavan make three changes. Jason McLaughlin, Niall Carolan and Darragh Lovett start in place of Ryan Tobin, Dara McVeety and Fionntán O’Reilly. No second chances after today. The losers’ championship is over.

Hello and welcome to live coverage of the All-Ireland SFC Round 2A and 2B, with eight teams in action on Sunday.
Yesterday in Round 2A, Cork stunned Donegal, coming from seven points down to book their place in the quarter-finals. Then in win-or-go home games, Monaghan comprehensively beat Roscommon, Kerry were too strong for Kildare and Meath edged past Derry in a thrilling final game of the day.
First up it will be Louth against Armagh, at Inniskeen in Monaghan, at 1pm. Then we have Galway v Westmeath and Cavan v Dublin, before the final match of Tyrone v Mayo. Most of these matches are for a place in the quarter-finals, but the loser of Cavan v Dublin gets eliminated.
