When you see the other deeply problematic fathers in Sky Castle, you’d want to give Hwang Chiyoung the ‘Dad of the Year’ Award. Having witnessed his teenage son being accused of a crime he did not commit, Chiyoung becomes a strong shield who does everything in his power to prove his child’s innocence. To see him fight relentlessly for his son is both empowering and heartbreaking. Choi Won Young has a history of playing strong father figures, and Hwang Chiyoung is arguably his best to date.
7. Seo Chungmyung (Kim Joo Hun) in Start-Up
In just one episode (the pilot, that too!) of Start-Up, Seo Chungmyung, in my eyes, became a K-drama dad I adored. And that’s thanks to Kim Joo Hun’s underrated acting prowess. Despite the odds stacked against him, Chungmyung strived to make his dream come true and bring his broken family back together. However, his heartbreaking death, just before his start-up reached fruition, dampened his plans. Yet, his two daughters persevered, and it was their father’s innate love that helped them become success stories instead.
