The time of week has arrived when the TV schedules are packed with shows and everyone’s asking themselves, where do I begin? The good news is, we’ve done the “difficult” job of watching almost all of them to bring you the shows that are absolutely superb – including one that we believe is the best drama this year.
From a return to TV’s most chaotic kitchen to a twisty psychological thriller and an unmissable new crime drama (Polar Park, if you’re wondering), we’ve got something to watch no matter where your mood takes you. So, forget your social plans, because these are the 7 best shows to watch this week on ITV, Netflix, the BBC and more.
Polar Park

Channel 4’s Walter Presents has just snapped up this new crime drama, which follows the escapes of David Rousseau (Jean-Paul Rouve), a Parisian crime writer with writer’s block. So how does he solve it? By travelling to the French village of Mouthe to get some answers about his past. Little does he know he’s about to be pulled into a series of gruesome murders staged as works of art. Creative, clever and very addictive. Arriving on Channel 4 on Monday 22nd June.
House of the Dragon
HBO
The third instalment of Sky’s epic Game of Thrones prequel is here. If you’re new to the drama, the series is set 300 years prior to the events of Game of Thronesand focuses on the story of House Targaryen of Dragonstone, otherwise known as the House of the Dragon. In series 3, we see the Targaryen civil war reaching a violent climax and, perhaps more excitingly, a new cast member arrives in the form of James Norton, who plays the nephew of Otto Hightower (Rhys Ifans), Ormund. Worth every bit of the hype. Series 3 is arriving on Sky Atlantic at 9pm on Monday 22nd June.

The BAFTA-nominated Long Lost Familyspin-off continues its seventh series with another heartfelt episode hosted by Davina McCall and Nicky Campbell. This week, we meet a man abandoned at a leisure centre in Milton Keynes, and a woman abandoned outside a hospital in Stoke-on-Trent, both of whom are desperate to understand their identities. Extraordinary and heartbreaking in equal measure. Airing on ITV1 at 9pm on Wednesday 24th June.

This Paramount+ series recently made its Channel 5 debut and it’s proving rather popular. The six-part series introduces us to Jess (Diane Kruger), a perfect mum and wife, and her best friend Liz (Jo Joyner), a hard-working doctor, who both live in London. But their lives – and friendship – take a devastating turn when Jess takes her baby daughter to the hospital where Liz works to treat a mystery head injury. When Jess can’t explain how her daughter became injured, Liz is faced with an excruciating to decision about whether to call social services or not. Airing on Monday 21st, Tuesday 22nd and Wednesday 23rdJune at 9pm on Channel 5.
The Bear

It’s back to TV’s most chaotic kitchen for the fifth and final (sob!) series of The Bear. The new episodes pick up the morning after Sydney (Ayo Edebiri), Richie (Moss-Bachrach) and Natalie “Sugar” (Abby Elliott) discover that Carmy (Jeremy Allen White) has called time on the food industry, leaving the restaurant in their trembling hands. With no money, the threat of a sale and a torrential storm in their way, the trio must work together in a bid to finally earn a Michelin star. Will they get the happy ending they deserve? It’s bold, but we’ll say it, it’s the best drama this year. Series 5 is arriving on Disney+ on Friday 26th June.

Ahead of the release of her much-anticipated new album, Confessions II, in July, Graham Norton is sitting down with the one and only Madonna for an intimate, in-depth discussion about her incredible life. The world exclusive will see her reflect on her early days in New York, discuss her most recent performance at Coachella, and feature special guests, including an appearance from Madonna’s long-time collaborator Stuart Price. Expect some big revelations! Airing on BBC One and BBC iPlayer at 10.40pm on Friday 26th June.
Chris & Martina: The Final Set

Wimbledon is upon us (starting 29th June) and Netflix’s new tennis documentary feels like a fitting way to kick things off. The film explores Chris Evert and Martina Navratilova’s decades-long dominance of women’s tennis and the intense rivalry (and friendship) that came with it. The pair faced each other on the court 80 times, including 60 finals matches, and yet they formed a bond that even cancer couldn’t upset. Arriving on Netflix on Friday 26th June.
