51 Mins: A great score from an unusual source; the left boot of Louth full-back Donal McKenny. Really good play from the Ardee man. Monaghan get a long pass in quickly, and McCarron catches and shoots over the bar. Louth 0-21 Monaghan 1-15

49 Mins: Conor Early gets beyond the defence way too easily and slips over his first point of the game. Louth are really in a purple patch. Max Maguire comes on for the Farney County now, and is involved as Jack McCarron curls over a two-pointer from play to break Louth’s momentum. Louth 0-20 Monaghan 1-14

47 Mins: There was a definite goal chance for Maguire, but he leathers it over the bar in the end. Maybe that’s the smart move. At the other end, Louth win the ball back well but can’t get out of the corner, and eventually it comes back to Dessie Ward who takes a poor two-point attempt. That sets up Louth for a counter and Craig Lennon hares down the field to score. Louth 0-19 Monaghan 1-12

45 Mins: Tadhg McDonnell opens his account, beating Conor McCarthy for pace and popping one over the bar. Louth then give away a silly free around the arc. The fouled looked inside, but McCarron’s effort would be for two in the end. HawkEye is called in, but that one was well wide. Louth 0-17 Monaghan 1-12

43 Mins: Tadhg McDonnell makes a good first impression, cutting through the Monaghan defence and feeding Ryan Burns, who cracks another over. At the other end, Stephen Mooney makes a good start to his day with a neat point. Louth 0-16 Monaghan 1-12

42 Mins: McCarron misses a kick that he would normally score in his sleep. Paul Matthews is on for Conor Grimes now. Louth 0-15 Monaghan 1-11

41 Mins: Ryan McAnespie is off for Monaghan, with Stephen Mooney on. Tadhg McDonnell has come on for Louth, who sneak back in front thanks to a curling Sam Mulroy point. Louth 0-15 Monaghan 1-11

40 Mins: Some great swarm tackling from Monaghan wins the ball back and they get forward quickly for a Bannigan score. One in it now. Then they win the kickout and Andrew Woods scores from it. Louth 0-14 Monaghan 1-11

38 Mins: Stephen O’Hanlon wriggles free of his man and wins a free just outside the arc. Jack McCarron nails the two-pointer. Louth 0-14 Monaghan 1-9

36 Mins: The restart takes quite a while, as all the Louth backroom staff trudge across from the Cusack Stand to the Hogan. Louth get up and running immediately with a score from James Maguire, and then Kieran McArdle gets their second in a minute. Louth 0-14 Monaghan 1-7

Ian O’Riordan brings us a half-time update from Croke Park:

“A hotly contested first-half of football finished with Louth taking the advantage, Ciaran Downey firing over an excellent two-pointer just before the hooter, to give them a 0-12 to 1-7 lead.

Louth endured a big setback after eight minutes when midfielder Sean Callaghan was sent off for a high shoulder into the head of Oisín McGorman, shortly after McGorman had released the ball. Monaghan were already 0-4 to 0-0 to the good, and Louth looked to be in trouble.

But they came fighting back through James Maguire, Sam Mulroy and then a big two-pointer from Dara McDonnell. Both teams were also creating goal chances galore, Monaghan getting the breakthrough on 20 minutes when Stephen O’Hanlon makes one of his trademark bursts towards the goal, setting up McGorman, who deftly slipped the ball into the net.

Monaghan added another point shortly after through the lively Andrew Woods, up 1-7 to 0-7, on 28 minutes, but they wouldn’t score again, as Louth finished out the half with four unanswered scores, including James Maguire and Ryan Burns, before Downey shot them in front.

They’ll still have that numerical disadvantage for the second half, but Louth will be well satisfied with where they sit for now.”

34 Mins: It doesn’t really come to anything, but that was a wonderful run by Stephen O’Hanlon, taking the ball from one 45′ to the other. Some player. Then his Monaghan colleagues dally on the ball and lose it after all that work. The Louth shot falls short, but Mooney leaves it behind and is lucky not to concede. Then Monaghan miss their own gilt-edged goal chance as O’Hanlon totally scuffs a left-footed effort. Louth 0-10 Monaghan 1-7

30 Mins: That’s the leveller from James Maguire. This is a great patch for Louth. Louth 0-10 Monaghan 1-7

29 Mins: Ryan Burns creeps just inside the arc and hits a superb strike over the bar on his left foot. Now Louth win the kickout and win a free for a pulldown by Dessie Ward. Mulroy converts. Louth 0-9 Monaghan 1-7

27 Mins: Monaghan spurn a massive goal chance, but McDonnell does do very well to smother Woods in front of goal. The big man manages to take a point from it though. Louth 0-7 Monaghan 1-7

25 Mins: Oisín McGorman hasn’t been hitting the mark with his point attempts despite the goal he scored. His latest effort flies way wide. Kieran McArdle is tackled a bit wildly so it’s a free well in range for Louth. Mulroy converts. Louth 0-7 Monaghan 1-6

23 Mins: Ciaran Downey is given a load of space to take a two-point shot, but it trails away to the right. Now it’s Monaghan who are doing better on kickouts. Louth 0-6 Monaghan 1-6

21 Mins: Sam Mulroy gets away from his man and floats a lovely effort over the bar from inside the arc. Killian Lavelle is marking him, but not getting to grips with him so far.

GOAL for Monaghan! Stephen O’Hanlon makes a trademark run up the middle, slips it to McGorman, and he dummies the square pass to go around McDonnell before burying it into an empty net. Louth 0-6 Monaghan 1-6

18 Mins: Bannigan edges Monaghan back in front with a free that was a little soft. Louth 0-5 Monaghan 0-6

16 Mins: Ryan Burns skins his man and sticks a lovely point over. Louth are doing well on Monaghan’s kickouts at the minute which is helping enormously. Louth 0-5 Monaghan 0-5

14 Mins: That paradoxical thing seems to have happened for Louth where the red card has given them a bit of life. Bannigan gets the next score though, bouncing off a man and slotting over. Louth 0-4 Monaghan 0-5

11 Mins: Goal chance for Monaghan, but Mícheál Bannigan ignores the square ball to McCarron and hits a tame effort right at McDonnell. Then Louth get a two-pointer to level the game from Dara McDonnell. Jamie Mooney gives away a short kickout then and Louth work a huge goal chance, but the young man makes a massive save to keep it out! Louth 0-4 Monaghan 0-4

9 Mins: James Maguire exposes a gap in the Monaghan defence and pops the first Louth score over the bar. He could have gone for more, but probably right to just get Louth moving. A good long kick pass from defence sets Mulroy up for his first point then. Louth 0-2 Monaghan 0-4

7 Mins: Red card for Louth. Sean Callaghan is sent off for a shoulder to the head of Oisín McGorman. It wasn’t really a dirty hit, but he can’t have any complaints about that decision. Andrew Woods gets a second point from the top of the old D. Louth 0-0 Monaghan 0-4

6 Mins: Louth work a scoring chance, and Craig Lennon has a half chance of a goal, but Stephen O’Hanlon makes an incredible tackle to rip it out of the wing-back’s hands. There’s a Monaghan player down now, so the clock is off. Louth 0-0 Monaghan 0-3

5 Mins: Two wides from Louth, first from Ciaran Downey and then from a Sam Mulroy free. Not a great start by the Wee County. Louth 0-0 Monaghan 0-3

4 Mins: Jack McCarron goes for a two, but it drops short and Niall McDonnell spills it. Monaghan nearly craft a goal chance from it, but Andrew Woods eventually does well to spin and pop it over. Louth 0-0 Monaghan 0-3

2 Mins: Conor McCarthy gets the first score of the game, an excellent two-pointer off the left boot that hits the crossbar and goes over. Louth 0-0 Monaghan 0-2

1 Min: And we’re underway after all the prematch shadowboxing with late changes. Monaghan have the first shot of the day through Oisín McGorman, but it’s pulled well wide. Louth 0-0 Monaghan 0-0

“Another sunny afternoon in Croke Park for the third of the All-Ireland quarter-finals between Louth and Monaghan, the big team news ahead of the 1.45 throw-in is that Monaghan goalkeeper Rory Beggan will not start due to dead leg picked up in last weekend’s Round 3 win over Westmeath.

Jamie Mooney takes over between the posts, stepping up from the under-20 team which he captained this year, but Beggan is a major loss, his kick-outs and accuracy from long-range frees critical in Monaghan’s progress thus far.

Oisin McGorman also comes in for Karl Gallagh at midfield. Ryan McAnespie also replaces Stephen Mooney at corner forward.

Louth make one late change, Conor Early taking over at midfield for Paul Matthews, both teams searching for the rarified air of an All-Ireland semi-final. Louth last made the semi-final in 1957, on route to their All-Ireland glory. Monaghan last made the All-Ireland final in 2023, but haven’t made the final since their sole appearance in 1930.”

Here’s the team news for Louth-Monaghan. The main headline is that Rory Beggan will not start due to injury today. He is replaced by U20 keeper Jamie Mooney. Ryan McAnespie and Oisín McGorman also start in place of Karl Gallagher and Stephen Mooney. For Louth, Conor Early plays in place of Paul Matthews.

Hello and welcome to live coverage of the All-Ireland SFC quarter-finals in Croke Park. Kerry and Mayo put themselves into the draw for the semi-finals yesterday, and they’ll be joined by two other teams by 6pm tonight.

First up, there’s a local derby as Louth take on Monaghan at 1.45pm, with both sides having a good chance of making a rare semi-final appearance. ‘Rare’ doesn’t really cut it for Louth though, as their last semi was in 1957.

Then at 4pm, Dublin take on Galway in the last quarter-final. The Dubs shocked Donegal last week, but face a tough task in Galway, who are seen as the most likely challengers to the favourites, Kerry.

There’s also senior camogie action at 3.30pm, as Cork face Waterford and Galway take on Tipperary on the final day of Group 1. We’ll bring you updates on all the games throughout the day.

Malachy Clerkin had an interesting chat with Brian Fenton ahead of Dublin’s clash with Galway. The midfield great might have proved just how much of a perfectionist he was in his playing days by saying his main takeaway as a player from the Donegal victory would have been “how good are Donegal, really?”
