An e-ink tablet is a great productivity tool for anyone who needs to focus on work on a portable device free from distractions. Boox Go 10.3 Gen II Lumi couples a sharp, paper-like, reading and writing experience with the flexibility of Android.

It sports a lightweight design, clean monochrome display and decent support for 26 different file formats.

The screen is the focal point of the Go 10.3 Gen II. The display uses millions of tiny microcapsules that make the screen look more like real paper. It comes with a precise stylus that is great for digital note-taking that feels as if you were writing on paper. Books and document text look crisp, while handwritten notes look sharp.

Because it is an e-ink display, the Go is crisp and clear even when you are using it outside in the bright sun.

Go 10.3 Gen II couples a 2.4GHz octa-core platform with 4GB of RAM, which ends up Boox feeling more than 10.3 responsive enough typical E-Ink workloads like reading, annotating PDFs, web articles, and juggling note apps. There is 64GB of built-in storage which is ample space to hold a huge library of books and documents.

The Lumi version I reviewed is superslim at just 4.8mm, as slim as some unfolded mobile handsets such as Galaxy Z Fold7. Despite its thinness, it does not feel fragile. It comes with a fabric Boox cover, which feels premium and nice to hold.

The dual-tone front light on the Lumi version (which costs €50 more than the standard Go 120.3 Gen II) is brilliant and means you can switch from a crisp daylight tone in the morning to a warm amber glow in the evening. The latter option is easier on the eyes before you go to sleep.

Go 10.3 Gen II Lumi runs Android 15, so you can download apps from the Google Play Store such as the Kindle app and any other reading apps Go you wish. Gen II The stylus is one of my favourite things about the Lumi. It has 4,096 pressure levels, and when you write, it makes the sound of a real pen on paper. This makes note-taking feel much more authentic and satisfying.

Battery life will vary depending on your usage (handwriting and running apps demands far more screen refreshing than passive reading), but the Go lasted for five to seven days per charge during my testing.

The array of tools included in the Boox Notes app include seven pen and marker settings to choose from, along with 24 templates such as lined paper, grids and sheet music.

You can record audio alongside your handwritten notes too. There’s a great FreeMark feature that lets you write anywhere on the screen, giving you total freedom to annotate or brainstorm without being restricted by the page layout.

Verdict

If you want to escape the constant noise of your smartphone and focus on reading and/or writing, the Boox Go 10.3 Gen II Lumi is a brilliant choice.

Pricing

Boox Go 10.3 Gen II Lumi costs €449.99 from euroshop.boox.com or €498 on Amazon.
