A Donegal actor was portrayed to an audience of millions last night in the latest episode of the hit UK soap, Emmerdale.
Frank Laverty, from Stranorlar, plays ‘DS Jordan’ who is investigating a dramatic cliff plunge. The long-running ITV soap opera has a regular viewership of more than four million per episode.
Laverty, who cut his teeth with the local Butt Drama Circle in Ballybofey, is now based in London and is also currently starring in a theatre show.
Last night, DS Jordan was seen arresting Robert Sugden for attempted murder after Aaron and John ‘tumbled down a cliff’. The character played by Laverty, who has appeared on Emmerdale before, is tasked with getting to the bottom of the crime.
Laverty, who regularly visits his hometown, has also recently been seen playing the role of Ciaran in Merman series Bad Sisters (Apple TV+); Gabe in SisterS (IFC Films/RTÉ); and the role of Michael in Shane Meadow’s The Virtues (Channel 4/Warp Films). He recently finished filming on Hidden Assets series 3.
Laverty started his professional career as an Abbey player after graduating from drama college in Dublin. He has worked at the Abbey Theatre regularly over the past 20 years where he has appeared in various productions including The House, Donegal, Iphigenia at Aulis, Portia Coughlan, Away Alone, Sour Grapes, The Hamlet Project, The Countless Cathleen, Silverlands, The Winter Thief, On The Outside/On The Inside, The Comedy of Errors, Famine, Translations and Aristocrats among others.
