An Irish chocolate brand is about to open their first shop in Munster – and their newly painted premises on Cork’s premier shopping street certainly stands out from the crowd.
The former bPerfect Makeup shop on Oliver Plunkett Street has gotten a purple paint-job ahead of Sugar Plum Sweetery’s arrival. The shop is set to open at the start of August.
You can treat yourself to Dubai chocolate frogs, toasted caramel s’mores bars or even a milk chocolate stilletto. If you’re more into sweets, they boast an impressive selection of jellies, including gluten-free and vegan options.
For the adventurous, why not try a chocolate labubu, filled with your choice of Dubai pistachio or Kinder Bueno.
The company takes international inspiration for all of their recipes, from Swiss-inspired chocolate and nuts sourced from Italy, to pick & mix brought in from Germany.
Sugar Plum Sweetery was set up in Mullingar as a sister shop to Wholesome Kitchen, a health food-focused restaurant, as a way “To be able to offer their customers the full package for whatever they are looking for; naughty & nice delights with their most creative of creations…”
Their website says: “Sugar Plum Sweetery was born in 2022 from a dream to make memories sweet, existing to create sweet moments in everyday life. Every candy and chocolate in our shop are like no other and are packaged with love and perfect for giving as a gift or treating yourself.”
Since then, they’ve gone on to be stocked in Brown Thomas and Arnotts department store, and have recently gone on sale in Dublin airport.
This is the latest in a string of new businesses that have opened up in the city centre lately. Earlier this summer, the grand opening of Danish retailer Normal in the former Argos unit in the Queens Old Castles saw queues of hundreds of curious shoppers clamouring for a glimpse inside.
If you just can’t wait for Sugar Plum Sweetery to open its doors, you can check out their website here.
