Samantha McCarthy vividly still remembers the exact spot on the Ennis street where she stood 26 years ago, opening a letter given by her GP to bring to hospital to see the fateful words ‘Suspected Multiple Sclerosis’.
Despite her diagnosis with the chronic neurological condition, she continues to be positive saying, “I don’t live my life everyday with the cloud of MS hanging over me”.
A devoted mother and wife, yoga teacher, charity fundraiser, and advocate for the MS Ireland among other accomplishments, Samantha strives to live life to its fullest as best she can. However like many others with hidden disabilities there are struggles she faces not everyone can see.
Multiple Sclerosis (MS) affects the central nervous system, disrupting the flow of information within the brain, and between the brain and body. There are over 11,000 people in Ireland living with MS, making it one of the most common neurological conditions in the country.
