Right on the heels of Tilta and MID49, SmallRig has just unveiled its lineup of accessories for the Sony FX5. Let’s start with the foundation of the SmallRig solutions for the Sony FX5: the HawkLock cage. Two versions are available: a standard version and an advanced one.

The standard version consists of three pieces: a cage, a top plate, and an HDMI cable clamp. The wrap-around cage is entirely made out of aluminum. It features a built-in ARCA Swiss plate at the bottom, multiple 1/4″-20 and 3/8″-16 threads with locating holes on the left and right sides, a built-in NATO rail on the right side, and a cold shoe mount on the top right side. The top plate attaches via two screws and is a NATO rail with 1/4″-20 and 3/8″-16 threads.

The SmallRig advanced HawkLock cage for the Sony FX5 has similarities with the standard version, including the same top plate, a similar-looking wrap-around cage, and the same HDMI cable clamp.

However, the cage has small differences, including a safety stop on the right side’s NATO rail and a thread below the lens mount to secure a lens mount adapter. The advanced version also comes with an additional top plate, which gives users more mounting points.

For both cages, two kits are also available. The D-Style kits include, as its name suggests, a D-Style handle, a 15mm side rod mount, and a hand strap. The dual rod system kit comes with a 15mm LW baseplate and two carbon fiber rods.

The mount plate attaches to the top handle via one 1/4″-20 screw and gives you extra 1/4″-20 and 3/8″-16 mounting points with locating holes, as well as an extra cold shoe.
