A popular Dublin coffee shop has announced its surprise indefinite closure this weekend.

Mantle Coffee Bar on Anglesea Street in Dublin 2 will close this Sunday after a dispute with Dublin City Council. Owner Steven Harris and the team thanked everyone involved in a lengthy Instagram post announcing the closure – and added they would, hopefully, be able to come back in the future.

He said: “We are leaving Temple Bar this Sunday, 4:30pm. Probably going to come as a bit of a shock but our time at 11 Anglesea Street, Temple Bar, Dublin 2 will come to an end this Sunday, August 2.

“After just over a year and with a constant great group of regulars, Mantle will close indefinitely this Sunday. Stay With Us Cafe, the first coffeeshop I opened in 2022, as some of you would be aware, had recent issues with Dublin City Council and our ability to reach and look after that community.

“This has impacted us here in Temple Bar, we rely on both shops to keep our staff paid and all our bills. Unfortunately with a downturn of which we are trying to wade through, the Council has forced our hand by actioning a court summons and fine to that location. It’s not a nice thing to have to close up after all the energy and effort put into the space but needed to protect jobs and fulfil our suppliers.

“We hope when this all passes we can come back somewhere else and with a new ability to try give you the best coffee and service possible. The team and I are a bit heartbroken by it all, this shop is the culmination of a lot of influence from peers in coffee which we have tried to reach, winning Best Newcomer 2026 and a few other accolades we will take for a year.

“I am really proud of everyone who’s worked in this space, true professionals and just sound people. We hope to see all of you who can join us between now and Sunday, before we… dismantle.”
