Two kayakers who were in the water in Cork harbour for ‘some time’ in poor conditions yesterday afternoon had the Crosshaven lifeboat to thank for getting them to safey .
The father and daughter were out on the water in the channel between Camden and White Bay in the mid-afternoon, as thunderstorms brought heavy rain and cloud to the skies over Cork. They got into difficulty and were initially helped by a local angling vessel before the call went out to the RNLI.
The Crosshaven crew said: “Our Launch Authority, James Cotter was contacted by Valentia Coastguard at 4:15pm this afternoon to support the angling vessel ‘Camden Mist’ that was inbound to the lifeboat station with 2 kayakers that they had rescued from their upturned kayaks near Bouy No3.
“They had been in the water for some time. James, together with Phil Maguire and David Venner the two casualties were given warm clothing ,showers and Tea until the Advanced Paramedic and NAS ambulance arrived.
As a precaution, the Ambulance service conveyed the Father and Daughter to CUH .”
Ther crew thanked the skipper of ‘Camden Mist’ for his timely rescue.
