Vivoo’s CEO explains how continuous biomarker monitoring and passive diagnostics could shift healthcare from episodic treatment to prevention.
Consumer health technology has spent the past decade shrinking, quickening and generally becoming easier to like – wearables that once needed an instruction manual now sit invisibly on a wrist. The next decade’s challenge is less forgiving: not becoming smaller, but becoming true. As longevity medicine sharpens its focus on the earliest flickers of biological change, the interesting technologies are no longer the ones you visit once a year in a consulting room, but the ones quietly logging data while you sleep, eat and generally go about ignoring your own biology. The ambition is straightforward enough; the execution, considerably less so.
Vivoo has built its name on rather less glamorous territory than a wearable: a smartphone-assisted urinalysis platform, pairing at-home urine testing with AI-driven interpretation so that users can track nutritional and metabolic biomarkers over time. From there, the company’s ambitions have crept – as ambitions in this sector tend to – toward something quieter and more pervasive: passive health monitoring, built directly into the home.
Longevity.Technology: Consumer diagnostics have come a long way from the pregnancy test tucked away in a bathroom cabinet, though longevity is a rather higher bar to clear. Geroscience does not much care whether your biomarkers looked virtuous on any given Tuesday – rather, it wants to know whether they are drifting, slowly and without fanfare, in the wrong direction over months or years. Snapshots are two a penny. What the field is short of is trajectories. Can consumer wellness products evolve into meaningful contributors to preventive healthcare, generating longitudinal data that physicians can eventually use to intervene before dysfunction becomes disease? Or will they remain firmly on the wellness side of a regulatory divide that longevity medicine is only just beginning to bridge? As healthcare shifts steadily from episodic intervention toward continuous monitoring, the most valuable biomarker may not be any single analyte at all – it may be the story that emerges when thousands of data points are viewed together. To find out whether the bathroom cabinet can really evolve into a clinical instrument, we sat down with Vivoo co-founder and CEO Miray Tayfun.
More than a fertility tracker
For years, consumer diagnostics aimed at women have revolved around reproduction – fertility, pregnancy, ovulation or the occasional urinary tract infection. Yet longevity science has exposed a rather larger problem. Women routinely outlive men, but they also spend more years living with chronic disease, suggesting that healthspan and lifespan have become uncoupled.
Tayfun believes consumer health technology needs to reflect that broader picture. “Women’s health extends far beyond reproductive milestones,” she says. “It is shaped by continuous changes in metabolism, nutrition, hormones, stress and lifestyle throughout every stage of life, from the reproductive years to perimenopause, menopause and healthy aging.”

Vivoo’s answer to that is not one test but several, gathered under a single roof: women’s health kits, urine analysis, AI-powered meal tracking for macro and micronutrients, and menstrual cycle monitoring – what Tayfun calls, not unreasonably, an ecosystem. The objective is less about producing another health score than allowing women to observe how physiological signals evolve over time.
“Our goal is not to replace physicians but to empower women with meaningful longitudinal data that can lead to more informed and productive conversations with their healthcare providers,” she says. “As the focus of longevity shifts toward extending healthspan, we believe consumer health technologies should help women build a more complete picture of their health every day, rather than only during major life events or when symptoms arise.”
When one data point tells you almost nothing
Collecting health data at home is one thing. Interpreting it is another. Urine, it turns out, is a rather capricious biofluid – it shifts with hydration, diet, exercise, supplements and whatever happened to have been eaten a few hours before the test. Small wonder, then, that consumer urinalysis has long had to fight its own credibility problem.

Tayfun does not dispute the criticism. “Urine is a dynamic biofluid, so individual results can naturally be influenced by hydration, nutrition, physical activity, supplements and time of day,” she says. “For that reason, Vivoo does not treat a single result, or an isolated spike, as a definitive representation of a user’s baseline health.”
Instead, the company encourages repeated testing under reasonably consistent conditions, allowing users to compare historical measurements rather than fixating on any individual result.
“The value comes from repeated testing under reasonably consistent conditions and reviewing results longitudinally,” she says. “Rather than claiming to eliminate normal biological variability, Vivoo helps users interpret it.”
That distinction matters. Longevity medicine is increasingly concerned with trajectories rather than thresholds; a biomarker drifting steadily over months may prove considerably more informative than one that briefly wanders outside the reference range before quietly returning to normal.
The biomarker arms race
The temptation within consumer diagnostics is often to measure more. More biomarkers, more panels, more data. Yet quantity and usefulness are not necessarily synonymous, particularly as researchers begin investigating urinary microRNAs and other molecular signatures that may eventually contribute to biological aging clocks.
Tayfun is careful not to promise more than the science currently supports.
“We believe the future of at-home tests is not defined by the number of biomarkers a test can measure, but by its ability to generate meaningful longitudinal insights that help people understand how their health evolves over time,” she says.
Emerging technologies such as urinary microRNA-based epigenetic markers are, she adds, “an exciting example of where the field may be heading.” If those biomarkers become clinically validated, scalable and affordable, they could complement existing health data and deepen understanding of biological aging.
For Vivoo, however, expansion is contingent on evidence rather than novelty. “Our roadmap is guided by a simple principle: every new biomarker we introduce must deliver meaningful value, be backed by strong scientific evidence and remain accessible for everyday use.”
It is a notably measured position. The consumer longevity market has sometimes appeared caught in a race to measure everything measurable; the more difficult task is determining which measurements genuinely alter health outcomes.
Between wellness and the clinic
For all the enthusiasm surrounding continuous monitoring, consumer wellness remains legally and clinically distinct from medicine. Turning streams of at-home data into information that physicians can confidently use requires considerably more than a smartphone dashboard.
Tayfun sees those worlds as complementary rather than competing.
“Vivoo is designed to help users build a continuous record of their health through regular at-home tracking, creating longitudinal data that can provide valuable context beyond a single point-in-time assessment,” she says. “Our goal is not to replace clinical decision-making, but to empower individuals with a better understanding of their own health and help them have more informed conversations with their healthcare providers.”

As longevity medicine develops, she believes that data generated between appointments could become increasingly valuable to clinicians, provided any integration is built around “user consent, data privacy, clinical validation and regulatory compliance.”
Consumer-generated health data is accumulating rapidly. The more interesting question may no longer be whether people can collect it, but whether healthcare systems can learn to extract clinically useful signals from an ever-growing sea of personal information.
The bathroom with a bedside manner
If preventive healthcare is gradually migrating into the home, perhaps the bathroom will become its most revealing room.
Reducing friction, Tayfun argues, is essential if continuous monitoring is ever to become truly continuous. “We believe the future of health monitoring is not about asking people to do more, but about making health insights easier to access as part of their everyday routines.”
While urine strips remain the company’s principal platform, Vivoo is already building more passive approaches. Tayfun points to its toilet-integrated hydration monitoring system, launched earlier this year, as an early step toward embedding diagnostics into everyday environments without requiring users to actively perform a test.
“Our long-term vision is not tied to a specific form factor, but to making regular monitoring as effortless, reliable and accessible as possible,” she says. “As sensing technologies continue to advance, we look forward to incorporating innovations that help bring monitoring further into the background of everyday life.”
None of this happens quickly. Passive monitoring still has to clear the usual triptych – engineering, validation, regulation – before a sensor in the plumbing counts as medicine rather than novelty. But bathrooms have a habit of absorbing new technology without anyone much noticing; the toothbrush learned to vibrate, the mirror learned to light itself, and neither felt like a revolution at the time. The most effective health technologies may ultimately be those we scarcely notice at all.
