Two batches of SuperValu Sesame Seeds have been urgently recalled due to the presence of Salmonella.
The batches in question are pictured below. They are the SuperValu Sesame Seeds in the 200g pack size, with batch numbers of 167 and 168. The best before date on both is May 2027.
Ireland’s Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) has revealed that recall notices will be displayed at the point of sale in store.
People infected with Salmonella tend to develop symptoms between 12 and 36 hours after infection but this range can sometimes reach between six and 72 hours. The most common symptom noted is diarrhoea, which can sometimes be bloody. Other symptoms may include fever, headache and abdominal cramps. The illness usually lasts between four to seven days.

While usually treatable at home, sometimes the illness can be severe enough to require hospital admission. Elderly people, infants and individuals with impaired immune systems are more likely to suffer severe illness from the infection.
The FSAI has requested retailers to remove the implicated batches from sale and also display recall notices visibly at point-of-sale.
Consumers are advised not to eat the implicated batches.
A spokesperson for SuperValu said: “If you have purchased Supervalu Sesame seeds 200g with one of the affected batch numbers listed above, do not consume it. If you have an implicated batch return the product to the store of purchase for a full refund.
