LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KATV) — A new art exhibit honoring iconic Arkansas musicians is coming to the Argenta Plaza.
The City of North Little Rock unveiled new plans today for the ATG pavilion.
It’ll be a public, outdoor exhibit housing 21 large-scale bronze sculptures of famous Arkansas musicians…Including Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Al Green, and Glen Campbell.
Project organizers say it’s all about celebrating Arkansas’s historic influence on American music, and strengthening regional identity.
“The state of Arkansas I think pound for pound, I don’t know if another state can touch it as far as the breadth of genres that this state has produced world class musicians that have influenced the world,” says Kevin Kreese, a sculptor who worked on each display included in the exhibit.
“From blues gospel, ragtime, classical music, country, it goes on and on.”
The central sculpture will be of music legend and Kingsland native Johnny Cash, identical to the one recently installed in the national statuary hall of the U.S. capitol.
Organizers are expected to break ground on the project next spring.
