If you’re a fan of Gilmore Girls and want more drama from the beloved noughties series, then you may be in luck, as HBO is reportedly producing a documentary that will honour the iconic show.
As per Deadline, the network is lining up a special celebration for the coming-of-age drama, which originally aired between 2000 and 2007. The documentary will reportedly air on HBO Max, though it hasn’t officially been confirmed.
The special will feature contributions from series creator Amy Sherman-Palladino and executive producer Daniel Palladino, while stars such as Lauren Graham are also expected to make an appearance.

The documentary will include never-before-seen outtakes, behind-the-scenes footage and interviews, with the the legacy of the series being explored after it became a “cross-generational phenomenon”.
It will be the first authorised documentary about the series, which aired 153 episodes across seven seasons. Sherman-Palladino served as the showrunner for the first six seasons, with David S Rosenthal taking over for the final season.
It was then revived by Netflix in 2016 with Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life, a four-part limited series which depicted the lives of the characters a decade later. Sherman-Palladino returned as writer, creator and co-director, while several cast members reprised their roles.
While there hasn’t been a new series since then, lead star Graham has suggested that a spin-off depicting Lorelai Gilmore’s high school years could be a viable avenue for the franchise to go down.

“We’re talking about this as if it’s like The Hobbit or something, which I’m not sure it is,” she quipped. “But I think the way other universes have dealt with that question is just going back or forward.”
In addition to Graham, the cast for the series includes Alexis Bledel, Scott Patterson, Kelly Bishop, Keiko Agena and Liza Weil, while Melissa McCarthy had a role as Sookie St James in the original show.
