Complaints have been raised about illegal dumping in the area, with Dublin Fire Brigade sharing on social media that that have responded to a number of similar fires in recent months

Dublin Fire Brigade has responded to two fires in Tallaght in the past 24 hours caused by illegal dumping.
Taking to social media, the fire brigade encouraged Dubliners to report illegal dumping to their local authority. They said that both fires were close to wooded areas.
“Our Tallaght crew responded to two separate fires close to wooded areas yesterday in Slade Valley and Saggart Woods” said Dublin Fire Brigade. “Both incidents involved illegal dumping. Did you know you can report illegal dumping to your local authority.”
On July 31, Tallaght fire fighters responded to a similar incident involving illegal dumping and rubbish on fire. Ireland has been under a status orange risk of forest fires for much of the summer.
Almost 450 complaints of litter dumping across west Tallaght were made to the council in a 16-month period since the beginning of 2025, reports The Echo.
In Knocklyon, locals have raised significant concerns this week over the volume of illegal dumping left piled up at Firhouse Community Centre.

Posting to Facebook, the Knocklyon Network page said: “Just bringing some old clothes to the recycling centre at Firhouse Community Centre to find this illegal dumping, microwaves, suitcases, clothes dryers. It is absolutely soul destroying that people in our locality think it is ok to do this. Seriously, cop on!”
They sahred photos of the dumping and debris in the area.
“Its never ending” said one commenter. “Such a shame people treat that particular area for this after all the work gone into it. It has a great kids playground and lovely area for walking. Other recycling facilities around don’t seem to be used for dumping” said another.
