Google Pay recently announced that it is rolling out “Ask Google Pay,” an opt-in conversational AI assistant powered by Gemini models, designed to help Indian users track spending and gain personalised financial insights directly inside the app. Alongside the AI assistant, the tech giant is expanding its credit ecosystem through a new partnership with SBI Card to launch the Google Pay Flex SBI Credit Card.
Smart financial management powered by Gemini AI
While the UPI has made everyday digital transactions instant and seamless, many users still struggle to analyse their monthly expenses or understand broader financial concepts. Enter Ask Google Pay, an in-app personal finance assistant that fills this gap. The feature allows for customized answers to common money questions by looking at a user’s past transactions and their CIBIL credit report details. It can evaluate monthly spending patterns to identify where money was spent and suggest practical savings tips. The second feature is breaking down complex financial topics into plain language, such as explaining SIPs, compound interest, credit scores and differences between tax regimes.Users can interact via voice or text in 10 supported Indian languages, making financial insights accessible across regional demographics, and the app offers customised suggestions based on spending habits, such as identifying the right travel credit card.Google emphasised that Ask Google Pay is an opt-in educational feature, keeping all user financial data strictly private and under individual control.
Expanding credit with Google Pay Flex SBI Card
Building on the rollout of its “Flex by Google Pay” credit initiative, Google has partnered with SBI Card to issue the Google Pay Flex SBI Credit Card. Operating on both the RuPay and Visa payment networks, the co-branded card allows users to link credit options directly to UPI for everyday transactions, ranging from micro-merchants to larger retail purchases.
Ecosystem benefits for cardholders
In addition to core credit features, Google announced upcoming ecosystem perks for Flex cardholders.Customers will soon receive a 50% discount for one year on Google AI Plus storage plans (spanning 400GB and 2TB tiers) along with exclusive promotional discounts across the Google Pixel smartphone range.
