Gardaí say a section of the N69 Tralee – Listowel road will remain closed to traffic “for the foreseeable” future.
The road between Six Crosses and the Listowel bypass roundabout was closed because a truck went on fire.
There are no injuries but the fire has spread a lot of debris along the road.
Kerry Fire Service is also at the scene.
Gardaí say the road will remain closed until the vehicle and the debris has been cleared, and the council has completed an inspection of the road.
Drivers are strongly advised to avoid the N69 and instead take alternative routes via the N21 or through Abbeydorney, Lixnaw or Finuge.
