KIRKSVILLE, Mo. — A colorful new addition to downtown Kirksville is gradually coming to life.

Artist Gracie Blickhan, of Holts Summit, Missouri, is painting a large new mural on the south wall of Pickell Abstract Company at 115 South Franklin Street.

Blickhan started the project a week ago.

She has been painting professionally as an artist for five years now.

She specializes in murals and window paintings.

Blickhan told KTVO that this latest mural in Kirksville is approximately her 10th one.

“The owner reached out about me doing this project, and she knows that mainly the art I do is more like nature, flowers, stuff like that, so she wanted me to incorporate that into the design,” Blickhan said. “But also, since they’re a title company, she wanted the houses included, and then of course, since this is downtown, she wanted big letter of “Welcome to Downtown Kirksville.”

The mural is being paid for with a $15,000 grant from AARP.

Blickhan said it will probably take her about another week to finish the project.
