With a clear resurgence and increased interest in Irish culture, many parents are reverting to traditional Irish names, which is now more evident thanks to this list.
The website Baby Name Together has listed the most popular names at the moment, with Ben charting Number One for a boy and Ellie charting Number One for a girl.
Taking the second most popular spots for 2026 are the names Cillian and Ella. Oisín and Ella follow in third most popular.
Continuing from fourth for the boys, the names listed are Rory, Hunter, Daniel, Aleksander, Fion, Ethan, Jake, Jakub, Josh, Alfie, Matt, Ash, Hugo, Matthew, Ruadhán, Liam and finishing at spot 20, Lorcan.
For girl names, starting from the fourth place, the names are Ava, Amelia, Erin, Lily, Emily, Saoirse, Millie, Sadie, Sophia, Sienna, Lucy, Evie, Aria, Freya, Mia, Mollie, and taking the 20th spot, Chloe.
Released by the Central Statistics Office (CSO) earlier this year were the Irish Babies’ Names 2025, with Irish names still trending a year on.
For boy names, their list included Rían as number one, followed by Jack, Noah, James, and Oisín.
For girl names, Lily topped the list, followed by Éabha, Fiadh, Grace and Sadie.
Their top riser that year was Naoise, up 74 places to 88th. and Raya, up 114 places to 99th place.
They also recorded some names that had entered the Top 100 for the first time, which for boys were Levi, Dáire, Naoise, Conall, Elijah, and Teidí. For girls, it was Ríadh, Gracie, Mabel, Arabella, Nancy, and Raya.
There are still the autumn and winter months to get through until we have a full year’s worth of trending baby names, so we’ll see if any of these names remain in the top ten.
