Earlier this week, a leak implied that the Huawei Mate X8 will follow the 2026 tri-fold smartphone for a “square” camera design. But the latest leak on this matter hints that the company might keep this lens framework exclusive to its triple-foldable.
According to FixedFocus on Weibo, Huawei will modify its tri-fold camera module with a square frame instead of an octagonal design, but may not bring it to the Mate X8.
The tipster made this statement after it recently pointed out that the Mate X8 could resemble the upcoming Mate XT 2 in terms of appearance, with an even slimmer look.
Mate XT 2 has been buzzing for adopting a square camera layout on the back this year. For the past two years, Huawei has been implementing an octagonal camera part on its tri-folding phone. However, things could differ this time on a major scale.
A similar speculation was made for the Huawei Mate X8 with the thinnest body design and a square camera module. However, the same tipster refutes the previous detail and hints that the company may use a different approach for its dual-fold.
For the tri-fold camera performance, the tipster mentioned that while Huawei will convert the lens arrangement into a square format, consumers will notice a significant imaging performance boost with the Mate XT 2 triple foldable.
Huawei’s new-gen triple foldable is rumored to be the second phone in the family featuring a 200MP camera sensor. Although the accuracy of this input remains unclear, and other imaging parameters are still absent.
