Commuters travelling on one of the busiest roads in Co. Cork are being warned of big nighttime traffic disruptions this week, the first of which starts tonight. Road closures are coming as part of roadworks and will run from Tuesday, 18th August, until early on Friday, 21st August. Motorists are being advised to drive slowly when approaching roadworks – diversions will be in place. Here’s all you need to know:

  • Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) has confirmed the first South Ring closure starts tonight (Tuesday 18th August) at 8pm on the N40 Westbound between Junction 4 Sarsfield and Junction 3 Bandon – all lanes affected. Motorists will be diverted via Junction 4 down towards the Sarsfield Road. This road closure will last up until 5am tomorrow (Wednesday 19th August), and will also happen again from 8pm tomorrow evening until 5am on Thursday (20th August).
  • The N40 Eastbound will also be closing between Junction 3 Bandon to Junction 4 Sarsfield from 9pm on Wednesday up until 5am on Thursday morning – all lanes affected. Another closure on this road is also expected at 9pm on Thursday until 5am on Friday (21st August). Here, traffic will be diverted through Junction 3 into Bishopstown
  • Motorists are advised that between 9pm on Wednesday and 5am on Thursday morning, the strip of the South Ring between Junction 3 Bandon and Junction 4 Sarsfield will be completely closed in both directions.

  • Beyond the South Ring, TII are also alerting drivers of another closure tonight on the M8 Cork-Dublin road Northbound between Junction 19 (Dunkettle) and Junction 18 (Glanmire). This will start at 9.30pm and run until 5.30am on Wednesday 19th August.
