After taking a few weeks away from radio, Triple M Mid North Coast Breakfast host George Sargent -affectionately known as ‘Sarge’ – officially returned to the airwaves this morning, opening up about the reason for his absence.

Sarge revealed that a few weeks ago, his mental health deteroriated to the point where he had to be hospitalised.

He said people had been asking if he’d been on holidays, sick … or even sacked.

Addressing the ‘elephant in the room,’ Sarge said “A few weeks ago, my mental health declined to the point where I ended up in hospital, getting the medical attention I clearly needed. I want to say a massive thank you to the doctors, my close friends, my family and my colleagues for supporting me through what has been a really difficult time. This extended time away from work has been exactly what I needed and I’d encourage anyone who is feeling down and out to reach out.”

“And if you need a break … take it. People will be more understanding than you think.”

Sarge underlined the importance of checking in, reaching out and continuing to ask people “Are you OK?”
