Mac Edwards, Vice President and Market Manager of Beasley Media Group’s Charlotte cluster, will leave the company Sept. 4 after a 35-year career with the broadcaster.
Edwards joined Beasley in 1991 after beginning his radio career with Beta Broadcasting in Austin, TX, in 1988. He started with Beasley as an on-air personality and Program Director at WKML Fayetteville, NC (95.7) before moving into management.
In 1996, Edwards was named General Manager of WFLB (96.5) and WAZZ (1490) in Fayetteville, NC. He later became Vice President of Operations for Beasley’s Fayetteville market before being promoted to Vice President and Market Manager in 2007.
Edwards moved to Detroit in 2016 to lead Beasley’s newly acquired cluster, which included WRIF (101.1), WCSX (94.7) and WMGC-FM (101.5). The group later added WDMK (105.9) and Detroit Praise Network. After six years in Detroit, he returned to North Carolina in 2022 to oversee Beasley’s Charlotte cluster.
His current responsibilities include adult hits “K104.7” WKQC, urban contemporary “Power 98” WPEG, “Country 103.7” WSOC, urban adult hits “V101.9” WBAV, CHR “Kiss 95.1” WNKS and “Playa 94.7” W234BY. Earlier this month, Beasley announced the sale of WNKS to K-Love, Inc/EMF.
Edwards has been named Beasley Media Group Market Manager of the Year five times. He has also served on the executive committees of the Michigan Association of Broadcasters and North Carolina Association of Broadcasters, along with community and charitable organizations in the markets where he worked.
The move to Charlotte was particularly meaningful for Edwards, who grew up in nearby Belmont, NC, and got his start in radio while he was still in high school.
“Beasley Media Group has been such an important part of my life and career journey,” Edwards said. “I’ve had the privilege of working alongside some incredibly talented people, serving amazing communities, and helping grow iconic radio brands across the country.”
Edwards thanked Beasley leadership, colleagues and partners for the opportunities and relationships he developed during his career. He said he plans to spend time with his family, including his two grandsons and a granddaughter on the way, before pursuing “new adventures.”
Beasley Chief Operating Officer Brian Beasley said Edwards’ departure marks the end of a significant chapter for the company.
“Thirty-five years ago, I had the privilege of recruiting Mac Edwards to join Beasley Media Group, and it remains one of the best decisions we’ve ever made,” Beasley said. “Throughout his remarkable career, Mac has been an outstanding leader, trusted colleague and tremendous ambassador for our company.”
Beasley credited Edwards with bringing a commitment to radio, his teams and the communities served by the company.
“His passion for radio, commitment to excellence, and dedication to our teams and the communities we serve have made a lasting impact across every market he has led,” Beasley said.
Beasley said additional details about leadership plans for the Charlotte market will be announced in the near future.
