The actor is currently working on ‘Antony’, where he takes on an antagonist opposite the veteran action star. Varma has now shared an update on when he expects to wrap his portions.
Vijay Varma expects to finish filming by September
Varma revealed that only some portions of his work on ‘Antony’ remain. He said the pending sequences involve both his character and Sunny Deol’s and will be completed after he returns from Australia.“As per the plan shared with me, we should be done filming by September. I have some sequences left to shoot for ‘Antony’ with Excel [Entertainment] and Sunny paaji. That is something that I’m going to be shooting once I’m back [from Australia],” the actor told Variety India. While details about the action thriller are being kept under wraps, Varma said the project immediately stood out to him because it offered him something he had not explored before.
Why Varma agreed to play the antagonist
For Varma, the opportunity was not only about taking on a different kind of role. Working alongside Sunny Deol was another major reason he wanted to be part of the film.“It’s just an interesting premise for me because I don’t remember doing something like this. And secondly, it’s an opportunity to work with somebody whose movie I went and whistled at and enjoyed so much,” he said. The actor also has a longstanding association with Excel Entertainment, having previously worked with the production house on ‘Gully Boy’. That familiarity made returning to the banner particularly comfortable for him.“Excel and I have been working together for some time now since ‘Gully Boy’. It’s like coming home for me,” Varma said.He also praised director Balaji Ganesh, describing him as an exciting young filmmaker from the South.“And with a very interesting young director from the South called Balaji [Ganesh]. So I’m actually having great fun,” he added.
Varma’s growing lineup of projects
The actor’s schedule extends well beyond ‘Antony’. He is set to appear alongside Anil Kapoor in ‘Family Business’, while also featuring in the upcoming anthology ‘Lust Stories 3’.For ‘Lust Stories 3’, Varma stars in a segment directed by Vikramaditya Motwane, with Radhika Apte and Konkona Sen Sharma also part of the segment.Meanwhile, ‘Matka King 2’ has already been confirmed following the first season’s release. Varma is also attached to several projects that have yet to be officially announced, including an untitled Netflix production. With ‘Antony’ expected to wrap his portions by September, Varma continues to balance theatrical projects and streaming ventures while taking on roles that explore different shades of his acting range.
