Architects and interior designers in Hyderabad know how to negotiate between the city’s many influences. As one moves through the old quarters of Hyderabad, the city reveals itself in layers—the arched gateways and courtyards of Golkonda Fort, the palaces of the Nizams, the traces of British influence around the Residency and the pearl merchants who gave the city its enduring epithet, the City of Pearls. These histories have long existed alongside one another, leaving behind a living archive of craftsmanship and changing ideas of grandeur. Today, the heritage sits alongside a very different Hyderabad, shaped by its technology corridors and an increasingly cosmopolitan way of life. It is within this meeting of old and new that architects and interior designers are creating homes and spaces that draw from its rich history while responding to contemporary ways of living.

Aarna Architects, led by architect Manasa Devabhaktuni, works across residences, multi-dwelling homes, universities, workplaces, retail and recreational spaces, with an approach guided by simplicity and cultural nuance. The studio’s practice also draws on travel, artisan collaborations and sustainable principles, including repurposing and redesigning.
For the House of Florals, a villa in a fast-developing peri-urban zone of Hyderabad, Aarna Architects created a home for a family of three and their beagle, inspired from the patron’s affinity for spirituality and flora. On the first floor, a glass-enclosed pooja space with lattice-grid shutters receives daylight from the double-height entrance, while hand-painted floral art, sandstone, wood, concrete panels and customised floral-inspired luminaries continue through the home, alongside pet-friendly details and revised layouts that improve ventilation and everyday use.
