Cary Grant, Lucille Ball, and Frank Sinatra were among the many Hollywood stars whose residences were designed by prominent Los Angeles architect Paul Revere Williams during a career that spanned from the 1920s to his retirement in 1973.

Among the 3,000 buildings the first licensed Black architect designed, from private residences to hotels, some of his most appealing—including one that formerly housed actor Denzel Washington’s family—can be found in Toluca Lake. Case in point: a six-bedroom spread on the community’s private shores that recently underwent a multimillion-dollar restoration.

Built in 1939, the dwelling’s traditional facade, with gable dormers and white picket fencing, sets the tone for interiors by local design firm KKD that feel rustic and modern at once. Vaulted wooden ceilings, three original fireplaces, and a hand-painted tile mural give it classic charm, while newly integrated smart home technology and high-end appliances across the main living areas bring it into the modern age.

The skylit living room provides ample wall space for hanging art and also features a circular bar with a row of stools. Wood-paneled walls and decorative wallpaper create a striking contrast in the dining room. Along with a captivating Portuguese tile mural, the kitchen overlooks the lake and features a sunlit breakfast area, while a casual sitting room has a stone fireplace and coffered ceiling.

Many of the bedrooms in the 6,500-square-foot abode provide tranquil views, but the primary suite is the most arresting. A trio of skylights allows natural light to flood its expansive bedroom, illuminating not only the chevron flooring but also the custom built-ins and a private sitting area set before French doors. There are two en suite baths, mirrored closets, and endless drawer space.

A scenic-view office and two powder rooms round out the interiors, while multiple al fresco dining and lounging areas, a swimming pool, and a spa span the outdoors. The private dock, with a bar and integrated audio system, comes with a custom 16-foot ElectraCraft electric boat for cruising around the lake.

The home last sold for $7.65 million in April 2025, property records show. It has returned to market for $12.99 million with Tomer Friedman of Christie’s International Real Estate and is being offered fully furnished with all of the artwork, decor, and antiques.
