Huawei Consumer Business Group Chairman Richard Yu has once again been spotted in the wild with a new phone, and it appears to be the Mate XT 2 tri-fold. While the design is still blurry, certain details suggest it is the new-gen triple-folding handset.

During the promotion of the HarmonyOS-backed Enjoy G9, Richard has been clicking pictures with consumers and fans alongside the newly launched rugged SUV.

One of these pictures has taken the internet by storm as it shows the senior Huawei official spotted with a new phone, which is suspected to be the Mate XT 2 tri-fold.

The image shows that Richard is holding the device in landscape orientation. It seems to have three panels – one covered with Richard’s two fingers, the center one, and the last panel, supported by the chief’s pinky finger.

A Weibo tipster shared the image and wrote:

“Mr. Yu is using the new three-foldable phone, which is expected to be teased at the end of the month and released in early September. As for the chip, there is no need to guess; the Kirin 9030 Pro is the most likely candidate at this time!”

It is not the first time Richard Yu has been spotted with a new phone ahead of its release. In fact, it’s more like sharing the first glimpse of an upcoming device, hinting that its launch is around the corner and consumers can look forward to it.

For the past two years, Richard has been attempting the same move. The first tri-fold appeared when the executive was traveling by plane. Last year, Yu showed it again, and here we are with probably the first partial look at the third triple-foldable.

Note that the accuracy of the device being the new Mate XT 2 tri-fold is still doubtful. Richard might be using a different model wrapped in a phone case. Though if true, we aren’t much away from the official launch of the new tri-fold.
