Coronation Street’s Bernie Winter-Alahan is left reeling next week when her aunt Celeste passes away – and leaves behind a devastating secret. As if grieving for someone she was estranged from for years wasn’t complicated enough, Bernie and her loved ones must deal with the shocking legacy Celeste has left behind…
“Even though she knew Celeste didn’t have long, Bernie wasn’t interested in making amends,” explains our Corrie insider.

“But when Celeste actually passes away, Bernie has to deal with the fact she threw away the chance to reconcile – especially when a heartbreaking twist in the tale throws her life into a complete spin. What was Celeste hiding?”
Terminally ill Celeste sought out her niece hoping to bury the hatchet, only to be met with a frosty reception. Bernie filled in the background of the beef to husband Dev, insisting she couldn’t forgive Celeste for tearing their family apart.
Conflicted Gemma considers spending some time with dying Celeste while she still can, but doesn’t want to betray her mum by appearing to take sides. Feeling guilty after some comments from Todd, Gemma steels herself and goes to visit Celeste.
The meeting doesn’t go well, and Todd shows up to find the relatives rowing before Gemma strops off. Later that day, paramedics are called to Celeste’s room at the Chariot Square hotel, and some upsetting news soon spreads around Weatherfield…

“Gemma needs to find Bernie, as she has something important to tell her,” teases our source. “She reveals to her mum that Celeste has died – and that she has left details of a huge secret that could impact her surviving family. Bernie braces herself as Gemma explains everything.”
In the days that follow, Bernie starts to spiral as she digests the overwhelming information. Celeste’s bombshell from beyond the grave certainly gives everyone food for thought, and despite their bad blood, Bernie eventually manages to shed a tear for her late aunt.
When Dev finds his wife blubbing during a private moment in the Rovers’ backyard, he does his best to comfort her – but in light of Celeste’s secret, the drama is just beginning for beleaguered Bernie and her clan. The news hits Gemma particularly hard, and knowing there will be tough times ahead, she promises to stand by her mum as they face an uncertain future.
As upset Todd tidies up Celeste’s belongings in the hotel room where she spent her final days, he’s intrigued to find a letter addressed to him.
Inside, Celeste expresses her wish not to have a funeral, saying she’d rather have a memorial party instead. Gathering the extended Winter-Brown-Alahan clan at the Chariot Square bar, Todd has another surprise from the deceased as they toast Celeste’s memory…

“It transpires Celeste has left another message,” warns our snoop. “This time it’s for the whole family to hear. Todd reads out Celeste’s parting words, which gets an emotional reaction from the guests. The reality of her passing, and the secret she held onto for so long, starts to properly hit home.”
