Taylor Swift Does One More Mashup for the Grammy Museum

If you’re anything like me, every now and then you instinctively check the time to see if it’s surprise song o’clock. Those Eras Tour live streams kept me going for two summers long, and thankfully, Taylor Swift isn’t done with her biggest tour just yet. Last week, the Grammy Museum held an exclusive chat with Swift, where she spoke in depth about her songwriting and even brought back the Eras Tour piano to Los Angeles for one last ride (still no LA post, huh).

Before she began, Swift explained how she prepared for the acoustic surprise mashup section of the concert, where she would make new combinations of her songs — mash-ups really took off during the international leg of the tour. “I’d find some sort of through line, whether that was rhythmically or these are all about a similar emotion,” she began. “I prepared one for you today that if I was still on the Eras Tour, I would do this one.” She beautifully blended three songs about memory: “I Knew It, I Knew You,” “August,” and “All Too Well”. Three songs that follow the memory of someone you thought you wouldn’t see again, the memory of someone you weren’t supposed to have, and the memory of someone you lost that’s impossible to forget.
