Cincinnati Art Museum opens gallery dedicated to fashion, textiles
CINCINNATI —
The Cincinnati Art Museum has opened its first gallery that is permanently dedicated to fashion and textiles.
The gallery, named in honor of Mary W. Baskett, officially opened on Tuesday. Baskett died in July, a year after her $5 million gift led to the opening of the gallery.
“Mary’s journey from curator to educator to gallerist, collector, and philanthropist in Cincinnati speaks to her deep dedication to and love for the arts and our city. Her passing is a difficult loss for our community,” said Megan Nauer, CAM’s acting curator of fashion arts and textiles. “We are privileged to honor her legacy by carrying forward her dream of establishing a gallery committed to the display of fashion arts.”
The new gallery will rotate the works on display, with its first special feature drawing entirely from Baskett’s collection of artists from Japan.
The Cincinnati Art Museum has approximately 15,000 works in its fashion arts and textiles collection, including dress, accessories and fiber arts from around the world.
